Airhart Reunion: Portland

Wednesday, We drove down into Portland and took turns doing some ordinances in the temple.

This meant we also each got a turn spending some time with the little cuties

They loved playing in these little columns. Cambry did quite a few jumping jacks.

Wells got a kick out of watching the girls play in the columns

We went into the visitor center and right in front they had this Christus Statue replica. Both girls immediate recognized Jesus. Cambry eventually walked up and reached up to Jesus's hand.

It reminded me of the phrase repeated in Isaiah 9: "For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still." Isn't this how we should respond? Reaching as far as we can to grasp his hand.

Then Vienna walked up hugged the statue and laid her head against it.

Cambry wanted to get in a hug too.

Afterwards, we checked out Portland for a bit.

We ate at this great little Bistro that Jamey and Michelle found

On the way back up to Hood River, we drove up the Washington side to get a dam tour. It was pretty sweet and I took a lot of pictures, but since I don't want to bore you all to death, I'll only post two.

We were able to go down on the Turbine deck and actually look into the generator and see parts of the rotors, shafts and other turbine-generator equipment working. It was incredible.

 Here's a little peek into generator. You can see the rotor shaft and vanes that open and close to let in the water.

Airthart Reunion: Multnomah Falls

After the fish hatchery and dam we went up to the beautiful and famous Multnomah Falls. It's the tallest waterfall in Oregon, and second tallest year round in the US. This part is a 542 foot drop...

...and the lower falls is a 70 foot drop

We decided not to hike to the very top since it was rainy and we didn't want to carry our girls up to the top...

But then Vienna started following the hikers up the mountain and on the first switch back it stopped raining, so we decided- why not hike up to the top!?

Airhart Reunion: Bonneville Dam

We spent the rainy morning at the Dam and Fish Hatchery

It was so fun for the girls to see the fish come up to the surface to eat the food they were feeding them.

The girls all stayed dry in our little rain coats. Unfortunately Devin got drenched. (How is it that little people look so cute in rain gear, but big pregnant women look so big and pregnant?? haha)

These sturgeon fish looked like 10 ft sharks/cat fish.

The sturgeons were quite hideous, but we couldn't seem to tear ourselves away from the window.

Vienna was so excited about these puffy blue hydrangeas. She kept pointing and yelling "FLOW-AH".

Devin was really excited about this giant turbine in front of the visitor center.

Ahoy, Captain!

inside the visitor center we got to see the fish swimming upstream. Somehow it was quite mesmerizing and we sat in front of the windows for about 20 minutes.

This spillway on the other side of the dam was so powerful and LOUD. Cambry didn't trust it enough to turn her back on it.

Airhart Reunion: Family Pics

Tuesday we all wore our tie dye shirts for family pics in the beautiful orchards. Here's the whole crew:

Airhart Reunion: Tillamook

We ate lunch at Cannon Beach and then drove down the Oregon coast to Tillamook. It was one of the prettiest drives we have made.

What's on the other side of that rock wall that we're standing on you ask? Oh nothing scary just a sheer drop to some rocks and the ocean.

In Tillamook, we toured the cheese factory and ate some a lot of cheese samples.

We had tp go up a few floors to see the factory. Have ever seen an elevator so packed with so many strollers?

The girls loved seeing cheese be made, especially Vienna.

We got a sampler of some Tillamook ice cream flavors and it was delicious.

While eating ice cream, Vienna kept going back and looking at the factory. That says a lot about how much Vienna liked the cheese factory.
