Pre-Thanksgiving party

This is our baby Cambry's giggle face. She sounds like a choo choo train and thinks she's so funny, which she is naturally.

Seriously! Why do kids love playing with garbage more than toys? Cambry was entertained with this crinkled paper strips in the bottom of a gift basket for a half hour (and if you know how busy she always is that's a LONG time!) Her favorite toys include cardboard boxes, ripped out pages of a magazine, and fluff balls she can pull out of the carpet.

Last night we had early Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' house and afterward we kept the tradition alive and made gingerbread houses. Thanks the Beck and Greg for a great time!

Here are the finished products (sorry Jamey and Michelle- you left w/ your house before I took a pic of it!). Jamey and Michelle tried for several minutes to get 2 gingerbread men to perch on the roof, but the stubborn guys kept tipping over. Jess and Mert's is equipped with a satalite, chimney and a front porch. Good work w/ the cardboard creations Mertle. Marg's and Jordan's is fantasticly creative even with Jordan getting in the way ;) Mine and Devin's house is still standing and we feel pretty proud about that. Cambry tuckered out early after making us pay for missing her naps by "singing" at the top of her lungs much of the evening. Just another day in paradise.

Halloween and Fall Beauty

We made up to the mountains just in time to see the beautiful leaves before they all fell. The yellows were just stunning.

The greatest thing about this trip was that Cambry finally got to meet her great grandpa Wrathel (Devin's grandpa on his mother's side). It was great to see him.

For Halloween, Cambry was a cute little cow and Devin was her rancher.

Here is the whole Airhart clan in their Halloween get-up. Too bad, we never took a group photo with the Rappleyes. Note Joslyn's costume. We had to stick to our theme of making a big announcement with out Halloween costumes. We are headed to North Carolina where Devin will go to graduate school at North Carolina State University.

Moab Weekend Getaway

Here they come in rapid succession. Pace yourself.

In early October, we went down to Moab for a weekend getaway. We arrived at about sunset and had to hunt for a place in the dark. We were so tired that we set up camp at the first place that we could find. Turned out to be a parking lot for a Oil Rig company - "Energy Queen."

Cambry didn't seem to mind that we camped in a parking lot.

It was a fun, laid-back trip. We climbed on red rock....

... and played in the wash.

Moab was just gorgeous and the weather was perfect, nice and warm. Noelle and Cory (Devin's sister and brother-in-law) and their kids joined us for the trip. They were great company to have for the trip.

End of Summer

Well, we haven't blogged in a long time. This is our attempt at catch up. Joslyn moved back down to Provo at the beginning of August while Devin finished up his internship in Idaho. By the end of August we were both back in Provo. Just enough time to enjoy the last little bit of summer in Utah. We headed up to the mountains to see the beauty.

On the way back down, we found this moose right in the middle of the trail. We were literally only 15 feet away from the moose. Joslyn got all mom bear and put arm out in front of Cambry and stared the moose down (as if that would stop this moose). We just back up slowly and waited. Eventually, the moose scampered off.

Summer experiment

This summer I decided that I would throw myself into the kitchen and try 3 new recipes a week. I never loved cooking, just did it out of necessity. Now that I'm a stay at home mom, I have time to plan, prepare, and create meals. Turns out i really like cooking... and eating good food that came from my kitchen! My poor neighbors graciously came over to try my experiments every week. Devin was incredibly patient with me- never knowing if dinner was going to be delectable or a disaster. I learned a few things in the trenches:

1. When cooking from the ward cookbook, don't judge the quality of a recipe by how much I like the person.

2. When I don't know what an ingredient is, ask someone instead of guessing! Who knew that shallots aren't anything close to sugar snap peas (It looked like it would work from the picture in the cook book).

3. Plan on 10 or more extra minutes of prepare time. The cook book writers must have 4 hands!

4. It's not the smartest thing to substitute ingredients that I have never cooked with before. I had a first class disaster when I substituted curry powder instead of using curry paste. NOT the same thing apparently ;)

July excitement

Cambry was blessed in our Provo ward. We've been priding in the fact that it isn't a typical Provo ward where there are 3 baby blessings every week. I should've counted on 3 other baby blessings though when there were so many of women in the ward due the same time as me though. It was still a special day for us.

The whole Airhart family together. First time in years!

The Blue Angels Air show came to Idaho Falls. We thought we would get tickets and go... Then they got here early practiced all week before the show. We didn't realize how LOUD a jet is only 200 feet above us at 200 MPH. Needless to say, I stayed home with Cambry blasting Classical music. Devin saw a lot of it. The show is 6 jets do really tight and dangerous formations- definite crowd pleasers.

We saw the fireworks Holladay Fireworks the 4th of July weekend with the Airhart fam.

We've visited the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone several times on weekends since we live so close to them. We've taken Cambry on a bunch of hikes in her carrier. She is such a dream.

We've traveled to Old faithful twice and I didn't see it erupt either time. The first time it was so cold and rainy I took Cambry in the lodge and tried to look out the steamy windows, but couldn't see much of anything. The second time we got ice cream cones and went down front and center minutes before it was going off. Cambry started screaming and decided she was hungry an hour early. I scampered off to feed her and got back just in time to see the last of the smoke and have melted ice cream. I'm just not destined to see the geyser do anything more than this!

2 updates in one month!

We are liking Idaho Falls. We have met some great people, visited some beautiful sights and are enjoying a change of scenery from Provo. We like to think of this as a practice run for when we leave Utah for graduate school hopefully in January.

Cambry and her cousin Crosby: Crosby the tank was born 5 weeks after Cambry and weighed 9 lbs 5 oz. That night he was born, we weighed Cambry and she weighed in at 8 lbs 9 oz.

At the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor Center they have murals of photographs taken by the Hubble Telescope. This is a picture of a spiral galaxy and my whole world.

Cambry falls asleep in a baby swing most nights because she seems to be most calm when she is moving... (Hmm sounds like both her parents) We tried out the swing at the park and it definitely didn't have the same calming effect.

Idaho Falls has their very own mirnor league baseball. The team name is Idaho Chuckars. If you're wondering what a chuckar is, the mascot is in the back ground... It's some sort of nappy bird. It was another wonderful event that our little lady slept through ;)

The First Post of Cambry's Firsts

This last week has been a big week for us and Cambry. She had her first move. Devin got an internship working for Idaho National Lab for the summer. She did so well riding in the car for 5 hours up to Idaho Falls for a 3 week old baby. There was some road construction along the way and traffic was moving an inch a minute it seemed. Right after I passed an exit, Cambry started screaming for lunch. Of course the shoulder was closed and there was no where to pull off. Luckily, her lungs are much stronger than before.

Cambry also had her first vacation to Yellowstone.

Cambry didn't talk much, but we think she was excited... Yippee!

Cambry's first visit to a waterfall. This is called Mesa Falls. We found it on a scenic byway on our way to Yellowstone. We thought the "white noise" of the falls would be relaxing to her, but apparently the sun in her eyes over rid any relaxing sound.

Cambry's First Swim. She was such a fish! We were a little nervous she would freak out in the water, but we gave it a whirl. We only got her lower legs in the water, but she was loving it. She especially loved her toes in the hot tub. A lady came and said how horrible the water was for her heart. Look at the pic with Devin... does that look like a baby in cardiac arrest?

Cambry's First Hike: Fairy Falls

Although Cambry didn't see much more than Devin's hoodie, this place is beautiful, and we had a good time. We had some unplanned obstacles along the way, and didn't get to finish the hike though...

Two buffaloes were standing guard on the trail and had a lot friends to back them up. We decided to call it quits at that point. Good thing, though, because it started to rain on the way back.

Overall, it was good trip. We can't wait to visit Yellowstone again.
