Springtime at the Zoo

We had a great time at the zoo!  The animals are so active right now since its not blistering hot... weird! Cambry knows the sounds the animals make now so it was so fun to see her recognize the animals and make their noises.

Turtle High Fives

Lately, V has been doing this goofy grandma face where she sucks in her bottom lip.

I'd like to say she's pointing at bears, but she's actually pointing at the little waterfall in their exhibit. She was more facinated with that than the bears.

Cambers running from exhibit to exhibit... no small feat when each animal has more room to roam than most humans have.

She kept quacking at the flamingos.  It was so cute.  She was so happy when they started waking up and ruffling their feathers at her.

When we walked in the green house I realized how much I love my humidity and orchids.

These ducks are what she found.  Much better looking than the ducks at our ponds.

Cambers LOVED the gorillas. 

After this pic was taken the lion woke up and roared so loud, the lions in Africa heard her. It was actually quite frightening and I was glad for the glass barrier.

I'm not sure if she was more excited to see the elephant or to be running in and out of the bush tent.

At the end of that video when she is making a dog's panting sound, she is pointing to a little girl next to her. Don't know what that was all about.

NC Zoo Take 2

Who's the happiest to be at the Zoo again?  That's right, our little animal lover!

We stayed on the North American side, since last time was mostly the African side.  It was a lot more relaxed this time since we didn't feel like we needed to see everything, and I'm not waddling too fast these days.

The turtles were a big hit.

This lady had a red tail hawk.  We thought it was cool to look at for a sec, but she was really interested in telling us all the drama that it has suffered since it lives next to the playground that is under renovation.  Thankfully we have a toddler that likes to run so we were able to cut it short.

C gets stuck in spots and can't move on without multiple explorations.  Its quite entertaining to watch. She just runs in circles, stopping and squatting every once in awhile for a closer view of something.  This mosaic captured her for several minutes.

I guess this is what I'd do all day too if I was taken out of the arctic to the tropics.

The zoo has a pretty creative play area that makes you feel like the size of an ant since everything small is super sized. Here's Dad and Cambers sliding down the leaf...

The black bears definitely enticed her to come join them.

This brought back a lot of memories of Yellowstone last summer where we were hiking to a waterfall and turned the corner to an entire mountainside filled with Bison- the closest being about 25 feet away.  It was a little anticlimactic seeing them behind a railing.

I kind of feel bad having this photo in with all these wild animals, but we saw these Amish people and were so excited/startled, that I snapped a quick one of them.  We wondered how they got to the zoo, and I'm not going to lie, I looked for a horse and buggy in the parking lot when we left (to no avail).

In the Aviary Green house, little sweaty head discovered and rediscovered x 15 the floor air vents that blew her hair (and my skirt) up.  I don't think she found a single bird in there she was so consumed with these.

On our daily walks I'm always picking leaves for her to carry.  She was quite confused why I wouldn't pick them for her in the tropical bubble, and took matters into her own hands.

NC ZOO

Devin took the day off yesterday and we went to the Zoo. Cambry freaks out with excitement when we walk by a dog, so she was in heaven!

Even when the animals were pretty far away, Cambry was flapping her arms, pointing, bouncing around and yeeping in excitement.

It was pretty hot and sweaty and the park is HUGE! Over 3 miles of trails. We've only been to the SLC Hogle Zoo that is about 3 acres. I'm sure all the animal lovers love how much room the animals have here to roam around. Thankfully they had mist stations around the park too make the trek more "bear"able (so punny wink wink). Cambry wasn't too sure about them though.

Ever since the movie Madagascar, I've loved the Lemurs

This gorilla walked right up and plopped down in front of Cambry. This was definitely a highlight in her zoo experience.

Devin totally freaked a little kid out at the "Swamp Ghost" exhibit by trying to explain why these alligators are called that. I'm sure she slept well last night.

We got to watch the Grizzly go swimming in his pool. We had just spent a little time under the mist station, but suddenly we felt ripped off.

We got the annual pass, so we'll definitely be back!
