Airhart Reunion: Around Town

Some of us went out for a little shooting fun: Grandma Ber, Jess and her kids, Jamey and Michelle and their kids, and me and Devin with our kids. We decided to take the kids, and if it was too much for them, I'd drive them back to the cousin Castle. We put Myla in the back to watch while we got things set up. She loved it.

Pretty soon Drew joined in on the fun.

We weren't bad for city folks. Devin is actually a pretty decent shot.

Cambers helping dad load the bullets.

I got off to a rough start, and then I figured out that I was closing the wrong eye to aim!! Hello! After that, things went a little smoother.

My gradma is so awesome!

Some of the crew Grandma Ber, Michelle, me & Myla, and Grandpa Greg. My dad has a virtually always perfect shot! I've never seen this side of him before! It was really cool to see. I felt like a little kid looking up and thinking "My dad is so awesome." The kids did great! Mainly because Devin took Cambry, Veena, and Wellsy on a little hike, and Michelle and I took the kids home before the big guns were brought out.

One morning we rode our bikes into town...

Only to meet up with Jess and Gregger for the massive bike challenge. What a blast!!

Myla loving the ride in front so much she's raising the roof.

We met up with Missy and Margaret carrying the load by themselves! Those bike carriages are heavy!!

We saw these bails of hay, and I felt like a little kid and needed to climb them.

Greg and Jess yelled up to me to do a yoga move... This is the only one I could remember

Airhart Reunion: On the Lake

Our castle we were staying at was right on the lake and we set up camp down here every day and we could come and go as we pleased. It was perfect. We could give our kids naps, use the bathroom, get on and off the boat, and just let the kids have fun.

Here's the Cousin's Castle we stayed in. It was beautiful inside and out.

This poor little goose was minding her own business playing with toys and eating sand, when all of a sudden she's screaming bloody murder. Devin picks her up and she has a craw fish pinching her little calf, and holding on for dear life. Devin tried to shake it off of her, and by the time I finally got over there, all i could think to do is karate chop it off of her leg.

3 days later, she still had a little pinch mark on her calf.

Mr. Rappleye owning the paddle board. That was such a fun toy to putter around the beach.

The 3 girls went on an exploration all by themselves to try to find the Lochness monster.

Devin motored some of the kids along the shoreline with jimmy rigged vessels.

Ah, so nice to be back in a waterski after years of missing out on this opportunity. Glad to be back in Utah in the summer, not pregnant or with a broken leg.

Veena wanted to try water skiing. So we got the 2 skis out and she held on to my neck. Man, that girl has a grip!! We had a great time giggling/gasping for air.

Cambry loved the tubes, and was so brave to ride solo.

Grandpa Greg, Tommy and Veena

Veena wanted a turn pulling Grandma Beck around for a bit.

Grandma Ber came up on the second day to play!

This girl loves life.

This girl did not slow down until her head hit the pillow every night. She was in heaven- water, boat, cousins, treats. Can life get better?

Airhart Reunion: Travel up to Bear Lake

Monday, August 11th, the Airhart family party began.
We started the fun with breakfast at Grandma Beck's house, then up to the Ogden temple open house. It was so neat to tour, and be in the whole temple with our girls.

I'm not sure they grasped how important and special the occasion was. They were so excited about their elf shoes that they got to wear.

Jordan, Margs and Gweny

We made our way up to Providence (outside of Logan) to have lunch at a splash pad park. The kids loved this.

Our little family stopped into Logan to see Utah State- where I went to school my sophomore and junior years of  college. Here we are at the "A" where you can become a true Aggie.

That building is Old Main, where 75% of my classes were. We toured it together. I had so many fun memories come back to me. I haven't been back since I left on my mission 11 years ago, and it was great to take a nostalgic walk down memory lane.

We made it to Bear Lake. The house was beach front property. We wasted no time at all to go down to the water to throw rocks.

Beautiful full moon shining over the lake- taken from the back patio.

Deseret News Marathon Blooper

At the beginning of 2014, I signed up for the Deseret News Marathon, and trained all winter long- pushing myself harder and further than I did the previous week. My goal was to finish by 3:35, and I was feeling pretty confident.
Here I am picking up my packet

Here I am at mile 7, sticking right with that pacer. The first 5 miles are super steep down hill, followed by miles 6-7 steep up hill.  By mile 14 the hills have taken their toll on my poor right knee, and I can't even bend it any more. I hobble along to the mile 15 aid station, hoping to get some medical attention. They inform me that I need to go down to the finish to get it, and someone will be by shortly to pick me up. So for the next 45 minutes I layed on the pavement and stretched and watched runners run by. How depressing!! Months of training and here I am broken in a parking lot.

Finally a hill billy couple in their 60's came by and picked me up, and drove me and one other injured girl down to the bottom. When we were 2 blocks away from the finish, I see Devin driving our mini van right in front of us! I quickly ask to borrow their cell phone, and they say, "We have a ham radio..." Ugh. Then Devin turned before I could jump out and get his attention, and I realize- Oh no! He got all the girls ready and out the door before 8 am to support me, and I'm not even finishing!!

So we get dropped off right by the medical tent, which is right by the finish line. I made a split second decision and decide, I'll do a lap around and let them see me finish and then tell them later the real story. So by this time, my knee is at a low throb, but rested enough that it will bend. I take a look at my watch and think- this is about the time I was planning on finishing anyway. I trot around the block, and head in to the final stretch.

Devin, the girls and my mom see me and cheer for me. When this pic was taken, I start to panic because the timer says 2 hrs and 50 minutes... but then I realized- oh good, that's the half marathon timer, not the full marathon.

I'm given a medal and ushered through the gates. I scan the crowd looking for Devin, when this other girl runner comes up to me and says, "Where were you? I didn't see you the whole race... because you finished in 3rd place and I thought I was third..." By this time my family found me and hear this and start cheering for me. I am completely mortified and cannot think about anything except- How do I get out of here as quickly as possible???

And then My SIL Michelle shows up with her double stroller... And then my sister Jessica and her family stroll over... and then my brother Jake who made a surprise visit from Texas shows up with his family. Everyone is congratulating me and I am crawling out of my skin, but still don't say anything- I can't even manage to think practically. I'm still in my fight or flight mentality- and I need to take flight! We're taking pic after pic and I'm dying.
The real 3rd place winner finds me again and says, "I'm just so confused, because I really didn't see you the whole race."

We finally got out of there and get to the car and I finally can start thinking clearly and realize- what the heck did I just do?! My conscience weighed as much as a heard of elephants. So we got home, I emailed the marathon director, found the real 3rd place winner via face book and message her to apologize, and broke the news to the family. Unfortunately for me, the papers were printed with me the winner. People from just about every walk of life get in touch with me to congratulate me. My ward relief society sent out an email to the ward that said- We want to congratulate our very own Joslyn Rappleye who finished 3rd place in the Deseret News Marathon this weekend. Oh the humiliation!!
After the first few days, it's become a funny story, and one I want to remember to share with the kids.
